Wrinkle free for a long time

Botulinum is a muscle relaxant that keeps the wrinkles away for a long time.

Botulinum BOTOX® is a well-proven medicinal drug that has been used in health care to treat muscular diseases since the 1980s. In the 90's and forward the substance has become increasingly used in cosmetic and aesthetic contexts to reduce visible lines and wrinkles. The use of the medicinal drug is now increasing  all over the world. All this thanks to the positive qualities of the preparation; high safety, fine cosmetic results, simple treatment for the patient and to an affordable price. The treatment also has a clear preventive effect, it prevents the development of wrinkles in the treated area. It can also achieve a healing of thinner wrinkles in a natural way (the skin not being vulnerable for constant bending (creasing) may after time repair wrinkle defects). The medicinal drug can also be used as hyperhidrosis treatment (excessive sweating).

Function

The medicinal drug blocks the nerve impulses to the small selected facial muscles that form wrinkles and prevent these muscles from pulling together, they relax. This way overlaying skin becomes smooth and wrinkle free. Only the selected specific muscle is relaxed, other nerve functions, such as  the skins sensitivity for touch.

How is the treatment done?
Your therapist studies the muscles in your face to see how they work, since everyone looks different. Eventual makeup is removed and the injection area is disinfected. The drug is given through an injection using a needle with a very thin tip, so thin the stick feels minimal. Anesthesia is usually not needed. The treatment takes about 15 minutes, depending on how many areas you choose to treat and afterwards you can return to your normal life. For the first 3-4 hours, you should not touch or massage the treated area, however using the muscles as much as possible by wrinkling your face the first day is positive. The effect can not be seen immediately after the treatment, it takes about 2-3 days for the drug to start operating and up to 14 days to gain full effect.

What can be treated?
Basically, you can treat any muscle, but the most common area to treat are the "worrying wrinkles" between the eyebrows, heavy horizontal wrinkles in the forehead and wrinkles in the corners of the eyes. Notice that the result of a treatment depends on the exact right amount of active substance injected in the exact right place.

How long will the effect of the treatment last?
An advantage is that the effect of the treatment is not permanent, it is transient. The effect in average lasts 3-5 months, and after that you can decide if you want to repeat the procedure or not. To maintain the effect the treatment should be repeated 2-3 times per year. Scientific studies shows that the effect lasts longer after each new treatment, due to the fact that the muscle becomes weaker after each treatment as a result of not being used and partly because you unknowingly change mimic.

Is there side effects and complications?
Like with all medicines, side effects may occur, but not everyone gets them. The most common are related to the injection area, such as redness, swelling, irritation, rashes, itching, tingling, light pain, scorching or bruising. You may also experience light headache in the next few days after treatment. These side effects usually occur within the first week  after the injection are not long lasting. Related to injection technique, there is also a small risk that a nearby muscle may become weakened, for example the muscle that lifts the eyebrows. This weakening can last for 1-2 weeks. The effect is transient, as well as eventual side effects.

Can the drug be combined with other treatments?
It can be combined with:
-Injection of filling materials (fillers), such as Restylane
-Laser treatment
-Chemical peeling
Treatment before (1-2 weeks before) other treatment contributes to a better and more effective result of following treatments.

Excessive sweating (Hyperhidrosis)
All people sweat and most of us are sometimes bothered by sweating too much. It is completely normal and may be due to stress, heat or infection. However if you sweat so much that you feel inhibited in your everyday life, you can be suffering from Primary Hyperhidrosis, unnaturally high sweat production. Primary Hyperhidrosis is a hereditary disability that affects 0.6 - 2.8 % of the population  and implies excessive sweating without underlying causes, such as stress, nervousness or disease.
Typical symptoms are:
-Frequent attacks of heavy sweat production at rest (without effort)
-The sweating disturbs daily activities
-Debut age before 25 years
-Heredity
-The sweating stops during sleep

If you suffer from unnaturally heavy armpit sweating or primary axillary hyperhidrosis, there is today a relatively simple treatment, that recent years of research have shown you can effectively treat with injections. The drug blocks the signal between the nerve and sweat gland and inhibits sweat production. The treatment has proven to work very well and nine out of ten are helped. Full effect of the treatment is achieved after approximately one week and average duration is about 7 months, but may vary from 3-16 months. A basis for botulinum toxin treatment is that local means with aluminum chlorid should have been tested for at least 1 month and the effect of it proven insufficient.

How does the Hyperhidrosis treatment work?
The treatment begins with a sweat test where the spread of the sweat glands are mapped. After that, the drug is injected with small thin needles where there are sweat glands. The treatment takes about 30 minutes and usually requires no anesthesia.

Are there any side effects?
The hyperhidrosis treatment gives no side effects, possible a vague redness or soreness in the first few days.

Who should not be treated?
If you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have any neuromuscular disease, you should not be treated.
