Plasma skin tightening

Tighter skin, fewer wrinkles, no surgery.

Non-invasive plasma treatment for eyelid lifting, wrinkle reduction, scar improvement, and skin tag removal. FDA-cleared device, performed at our clinic in Vaasa.

How it works

A small handheld device creates a tiny arc of plasma (ionised gas) between the pen tip and your skin. This arc instantly vaporises a pinpoint of surface skin without cutting or touching it. Each dot triggers your body's healing response: fibroblasts activate, new collagen forms, and the skin tightens as it repairs itself.

The treatment leaves a pattern of tiny dots that crust over and fall off within 7–14 days. Underneath, the skin continues remodelling for months. No scalpel, no stitches, no needles.

Unlike lasers, plasma energy doesn't depend on skin colour or pigment to work. The arc delivers energy directly to the skin surface, making it effective regardless of what's underneath.

What we treat

Eyelid tightening

The most studied use of plasma treatment. Lifts drooping upper eyelids and smooths the under-eye area without surgery. Best for mild to moderate sagging. Multiple clinical studies show significant improvement (p < 0.001) with high patient satisfaction.

Wrinkles and fine lines

Periorbital lines (crow's feet), forehead lines, lip lines, nasolabial folds. A randomised controlled trial showed statistically significant wrinkle improvement compared to untreated skin. Results build over weeks as collagen remodels.

Scars

Acne scars, surgical scars, stretch marks. A 95-patient study achieved 100% patient satisfaction for acne scar treatment. Works best on atrophic (indented) scars. Newer, red stretch marks respond better than older white ones.

Skin tags and lesions

Skin tags, seborrheic keratoses, small benign growths. Often done in a single session. A randomised trial found plasma cleared seborrheic keratoses faster than cryotherapy (37% clearance at 3 weeks vs 17% for freezing).

Skin tightening

Neck, jawline, décolletage, hands, knees, abdomen. Anywhere the skin has started to loosen. The collagen-rebuilding effect continues working for 3–12 months after treatment.

What to expect

Before treatment

  • Consultation to assess your skin and discuss realistic expectations
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning for 2 weeks before
  • Stop retinoids 5–7 days before
  • Come with clean skin, no makeup on the treatment area

During treatment

We apply numbing cream 30–45 minutes before starting. The treatment itself takes 15–60 minutes depending on the area. You'll feel small snapping sensations and warmth. Most people find it tolerable with the numbing cream.

Recovery

This is not a zero-downtime treatment. Be prepared for visible healing:

  • Days 1–3: Swelling and redness, especially around the eyes. The tiny dots darken into carbon crusts
  • Days 3–7: Crusts are visible. Don't pick them. They need to fall off on their own
  • Days 7–14: Crusts shed, revealing pink new skin underneath
  • Weeks 2–4: Pinkness fades. Initial results become visible
  • Months 1–12: Collagen continues rebuilding. Results keep improving

Most people take about a week off from social events. You can work from home during recovery, but you will have visible dots on your face for 7–10 days.

Results

Most people see noticeable improvement after one session. For best results, 1–3 sessions are typical, spaced 6–12 weeks apart to allow full healing between treatments.

Results last 12–36 months depending on the area, your age, and how you take care of your skin afterward. Touch-up sessions every 1–2 years can maintain the effect.

What the research shows

  • Eyelid tightening: significant improvement confirmed in a 56-patient study (p < 0.001)
  • Wrinkle reduction: randomised controlled trial showed significant improvement vs untreated skin
  • Acne scars: 95 patients, 100% satisfaction rate (44% very satisfied, 56% satisfied)
  • General use: in a 710-patient study, 53% rated themselves "extremely satisfied"

Is it right for you?

Good candidates

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity (early signs of aging)
  • Lighter skin tones (Fitzpatrick I–III)
  • People who want results without surgery
  • Acne scars or uneven skin texture
  • Small skin tags or benign growths to remove

Not suitable if

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Pacemaker or implanted electronic device
  • Active skin infection in the treatment area
  • History of keloid scarring
  • Active cancer treatment
  • Recent Accutane use (within 6–12 months)
  • Active tan or recent heavy sun exposure
Darker skin tones (Fitzpatrick IV–VI): Plasma treatment carries a higher risk of pigmentation changes on darker skin. We assess each case individually and may recommend a patch test first. We'll be honest with you about whether this treatment is a good fit.

How it compares

Plasma treatment isn't a replacement for surgery in severe cases. It fills a specific gap: people who want real improvement but aren't ready for (or don't need) a surgical procedure.

Aftercare

  • Don't pick the crusts. Let them fall off naturally
  • Keep the area clean and dry for the first 24 hours
  • Apply the aftercare cream we give you as directed
  • Avoid direct sun. Wear SPF 50+ daily for at least 4 weeks
  • No makeup on the treated area until crusts have shed
  • Skip the sauna, swimming pool, and heavy exercise for 7–10 days
  • Avoid retinoids and active skincare ingredients until fully healed

FAQ

With numbing cream, most people describe it as a snapping or tingling feeling. Not painless, but manageable. The eye area is more sensitive than other parts of the face.

The dots and crusting last about 7–10 days. After they shed, there may be some pinkness for another week or two. Most people plan for 7–14 days of visible recovery.

One session gives visible results. Most people benefit from 1–3 sessions, depending on the area and what they want to achieve. Sessions are spaced 6–12 weeks apart.

Typically 1–3 years. Your skin continues to age naturally, so results are not permanent. Touch-ups every year or two can maintain the improvement.

For mild to moderate concerns, it can deliver meaningful improvement. For significant excess skin, surgery is still the better option. We'll tell you honestly during the consultation which approach makes sense for you.

We use the Plaxpot device, which holds FDA clearance and CE medical certification. It's one of the few plasma devices with both. The technology has been studied in multiple peer-reviewed clinical trials.
