Waxing – Professional Hair Removal

Smooth, Long-Lasting Results for Face and Body

Professional waxing treatments at our clinic in Vaasa. Effective hair removal with results lasting 3–6 weeks.

What is Waxing?

Waxing is a professional hair removal method where warm wax is applied to the skin and removed quickly, pulling hair out from the root. Because hair is removed at the root rather than cut at the surface, results last significantly longer than shaving – typically 3 to 6 weeks of smooth skin.

There are two main types of wax used in professional treatments: soft wax (also called strip wax) and hard wax (also called stripless wax). Each type has its advantages depending on the treatment area and skin sensitivity.

Types of Wax

Soft Wax (Strip Wax)

Applied in a thin layer over the skin and removed with a cloth or paper strip. Ideal for large areas such as legs, arms, and back. Soft wax adheres to both the hair and skin, providing thorough removal in one pass.

Hard Wax (Stripless Wax)

Applied in a thicker layer that hardens as it cools, then removed without a strip. Better suited for sensitive areas such as the face, underarms, and bikini area. Hard wax grips the hair without sticking to the skin, making it gentler and less painful.

Benefits of Waxing

  • Smooth results lasting weeks — enjoy 3 to 6 weeks of hair-free, silky smooth skin
  • Hair grows back finer — with regular waxing, hair regrowth becomes thinner and softer over time
  • Large areas treated quickly — legs, arms, and back can be waxed efficiently in a single session
  • Precision for facial areas — upper lip, eyebrows, and chin can be shaped with accuracy
  • Exfoliates the skin — waxing removes dead skin cells along with hair, leaving skin smoother and brighter

What to Expect

Before

Hair should be at least 5 mm long – about 2 to 3 weeks of growth after shaving. This allows the wax to grip the hair properly for effective removal.

During

Warm wax is applied to the skin in the direction of hair growth. It is then removed quickly against the direction of growth, pulling hair out from the root. The sensation is brief.

After

Skin feels immediately smooth. Some slight redness is normal and typically fades within a few hours. Results last 3 to 6 weeks depending on your hair growth cycle.

Pre-Care Instructions

  • Let hair grow to at least 5 mm – do not shave for 2 to 3 weeks before your appointment
  • Exfoliate the treatment area 24 hours before to remove dead skin cells
  • Do not apply lotions, oils, or creams on the day of your appointment
  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol before your session as they increase skin sensitivity
  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds for 24 hours before treatment

Aftercare

  • Avoid hot water, saunas, and steam rooms for 24 hours after waxing
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing to avoid irritation
  • Begin gentle exfoliation after 48 hours to prevent ingrown hairs
  • Moisturize daily to keep skin soft and hydrated
  • Avoid direct sun exposure on freshly waxed skin
  • Do not apply deodorant on freshly waxed underarms

Frequently Asked Questions

Waxing results typically last 3 to 6 weeks, depending on your individual hair growth cycle. With regular waxing sessions, many people find that hair regrowth becomes slower and finer over time.

Hair should be at least 5 mm long for the wax to grip effectively. This is typically about 2 to 3 weeks of growth after shaving. If hair is too short, the wax cannot remove it properly.

You will feel a brief pulling sensation when the wax is removed, but it lasts only a moment. The first session is usually the most sensitive. With regular waxing, discomfort decreases as hair grows back finer. Sensitive areas like the bikini line may be more uncomfortable, which is why we use hard wax there for a gentler experience.

We recommend waxing every 4 to 6 weeks for best results. This allows hair to grow back to the optimal length for effective removal. Over time, you may find you can extend the interval between sessions as hair growth slows.

Yes, waxing is suitable for sensitive skin. We use hard wax on sensitive areas as it grips the hair without adhering to the skin, resulting in less irritation. We also apply soothing products after treatment to calm the skin. Let your therapist know about any skin sensitivities before your session.

Both remove hair from the root, but they use different products and techniques. Waxing uses resin-based wax applied in the direction of hair growth and removed against it. Sugaring uses a natural sugar paste applied against hair growth and removed in the direction of growth. Sugaring is often considered gentler for very sensitive skin, while waxing is faster for large areas. Both provide excellent long-lasting results.
